When I learned that the theme for this week's #SundaySupper was favorite holiday movie, song or TV inspired recipes I knew in a moment I HAD to participate.
Mine is a combination of two of those things... holiday movie and song. The movie: WHITE CHRISTMAS with Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. The song: SNOW.
What's that? You say you don't remember the song? Here, let me give you a little reminder and you'll also see where I got the inspiration for the backdrop of my photo... :)
I think I can watch that 1,000 times over and never get tired of it. Wait...I think I have already watched it, and the movie, at least 1,000 times over the course of my lifetime and somehow, it never loses it's charm on me! For me, Christmas just wouldn't be the same without it!
Here then it my recipe for Vermont Hot Chocolate. What makes it "Vermont" Hot Chocolate, you ask? Why, the addition of maple syrup of course! Better grab your ticket, this train's about to leave the station! We're headed to Vermont!!!

VERMONT HOT CHOCOLATE {PRINT THIS RECIPE}
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar plus 3 tablespoons
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder plus 3 tablespoons
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg (plus more for sprinkling)
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk (I used 2%)
1 cup half-and-half
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
3 heaping tablespoons Nutella
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon maple extract
Whipped cream for garnish
-In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, whisk the water, sugar and cocoa powder until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is thoroughly blended.
-Whisk in the cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, milk, half-and-half, maple syrup and Nutella.
-Continue cooking and whisking until the mixture is completely hot and the Nutella has completely dissolved.
-Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and maple extracts.
-Pour into mugs and garnish with whipped cream and a light grating of nutmeg.
-Serve and enjoy :)
I can hardly wait to find out what all the other #SundaySupper cooks and bakers were inspired by this holiday season...If you're interested too, check out their links below and be ready to have your mind blown by their creativity and their recipes. Oh, before you do that, you might want to make yourself a nice hot cup of Vermont Hot Chocolate and turn on some Christmas music in the background. If you're lucky, Bing will be on singing White Christmas the only way Bing can, and we'll have come full circle :)
