The Quilted Pineapple Painted Blog Tile

I was super excited to get an email from a woman who wanted a blog tile painted to represent her best friend's blog: The Quilted Pineapple.

We spent a little time corresponding back and forth regarding colors, pictures, logo descriptions and web links for me to use as inspiration and reference.

Before long I was armed with my photocopies and her specifications and I was excited and ready to see my vision (and hers) come to life on a ceramic tile.

This was one of the pictures the customer had sent to me to use for the quilt background and color reference:

I must admit though, when I start a project with such an intricate design and details, I'm always a bit nervous that somewhere along the line it won't turn out like I have pictured in my head and I'll get almost to the end, mess things up, and ultimately have to start all over from scratch. Horrors! Happily that didn't happen and the extreme detailing process went without a hitch. Woot!

With a starting point planned in my head, I set out to paint The Quilted Pineapple blog tile.

Adding the color is always my favorite part of any project.

Next comes the detail on the actual "fabric" shapes.  This was a detail (my middle name) I felt was needed to most represent an actual quilt.  With my paint thinned down I carefully outlined, striped, dotted , criss-crossed and swirled each colored shape.

I think it clean up nicely and would make an adorable wall hanging as is. However, the logo is key to this particular tile, so working from the logo picture she'd also sent to me, I hold my breath and start to paint:

Again with the detail to make the design stand out from the background.

If you look closely at the design, you'll notice that the blog owners initials are inside her logo. Cute. Her husband designed her logo and I think it's an awesome touch that makes it so much more personal.

The final bit of detail I decide to add is the stitching between each fabric shape and the dots on the pineapple like her design shows, and this blog tile is just about complete!

Oh wait!  I almost forgot the most important part...her blog name. Can't forget that now can I?

After all the painting is finished and I've added a coat of satin glaze for durablilty and long life, I add the alder wood frame which finishes off this design perfectly and makes this tile perfect for hanging on any wall or displaying on any shelf or desk.

Painted Blog Tile

If you're wondering if this tile can also be used as a trivet in the kitchen the answer is a resounding...YES! All of my painted tiles are completely heat resistant and stand up beautifully as hard workers in the kitchen.
