Move Over Applesauce!

Here's a questions for you: Why should apples get all the Autumnal glory? Pears are a wonderful fall fruit too and they're packed with tons more fiber!

Chunky Pear Sauce Recipe

5-6 pears (variety of your choosing) peeled, cored and cut into 1" chunks   (I used Bartlett)
1/4 water
pinch of salt
3-4 tablespoons Amaretto
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
fresh grated nutmeg (to taste)

-Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer on medium, low heat until the pears are to your desired consistency.
-At this point, you can mash them further, or leave them a bit chunky as I did.
-Serve this sauce warm or cold.

We had it warm with dinner because at the time I thought of this brain storm, it was getting close to dinner and I didn't have sufficient time to chill the sauce before we ate.  I think the flavors would even develop more if it had been allowed to chill for a few hours.  Either way, it was still yummy :)

So the moral of this story is, the next time you're thinking applesauce, think pear sauce instead. You'll be glad you did!
